Following the deaths of a brother and sister in Patna, Bihar, the family and their supporters took to the streets in protest, leading to violent clashes. The demonstration on Atal Path saw protesters damaging several vehicles and setting some on fire. Police officers were also reportedly attacked with stones. The clashes resulted in injuries.
The siblings’ bodies were discovered inside a car in the Indrapuri area of Patna on August 15th. The vehicle was parked near their home, about 200 meters away. The children had left for coaching classes, and when they didn’t return, their family initiated a search. The bodies were found in a car parked near an empty plot. Police have sent the bodies for a post-mortem examination.
Police investigated the case and examined CCTV footage. However, no strong evidence was found. The parents of the children have accused the coaching teacher of being involved, but the police investigation has cleared the teacher, concluding the children were returning safely from their coaching center.
Authorities are investigating the possibility that the deaths were accidental. However, the family suspects foul play, alleging the children were deliberately placed in the car. They had staged a protest four days earlier and gathered again on Monday, accusing the police of being negligent in the case.
Kartikeya K. Sharma, the SSP of Patna, explained that investigations are underway regarding the incident. He stated that there is no indication of homicide yet. The family has been informed, and action will be taken against those who engaged in lawless behavior. Those involved in the acts of violence have been identified, and an FIR will be filed. Sharma condemned the actions and said that there are established platforms to address grievances. He added that action cannot be taken without any evidence of murder. He said it appeared that the events were planned and resulted in injuries and the burning of two vehicles.
