Rahul Gandhi, speaking at a press conference in Araria, Bihar, as part of the ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra,’ accused the Election Commission of India and the BJP of orchestrating vote theft through the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar. He described the SIR process as an “institutionalised way” to steal votes and alleged a partnership between the ECI and the BJP. Gandhi claimed that the Opposition’s concerns about the deletion of numerous voters’ names have been disregarded, while the BJP has not voiced any objections. He reiterated the Opposition’s resolve to prevent the alleged manipulation of elections in Bihar by the BJP and the ECI. He highlighted the growing public support for the ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra,’ indicating widespread public belief in the claims of vote theft. Gandhi criticized the ECI for failing to provide accurate voter lists in Maharashtra, Haryana, and Karnataka and stated the intention of changing the Election Commission’s approach. He questioned the ECI’s impartiality by comparing their actions towards him and Union Minister Anurag Thakur, who had also made allegations of vote theft. The ‘Voter Adhikaar Yatra,’ co-led by Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav, is a 16-day protest against the SIR exercise.
