The Yunus government is grappling with the problem of seized weapons in Bangladesh, a key concern before the elections. Weapons taken from security forces during clashes with protesters at the time of last year’s July revolution pose a significant risk. The potential for misuse of these weapons before the elections has increased. In response, government agencies are actively working to recover the weapons.
Official figures reveal that 1,363 firearms and 257,720 rounds of ammunition remain unaccounted for. Law enforcement agencies fear these arms could be used to trigger violence and destabilize the nation prior to the upcoming national polls. The drive to seize weapons has thus been stepped up.
On Saturday, Home Advisor, Retired Lieutenant General Mohammad Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, stated that recovering the weapons is an ongoing effort, with seizures continuing daily. He expressed optimism that almost all weapons would be recovered before the elections.
