The release of ‘War 2’, starring Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR, alongside Rajinikanth’s ‘Coolie’ on August 14, 2025, sparked a major box office battle. Both films, highly anticipated, attracted large audiences and achieved impressive financial results, emerging as two of the year’s biggest releases. Although both movies saw a significant decline during the weekdays after a successful opening weekend, they both exceeded the Rs 200 crore mark in their first week. With Day 9 figures now available, the competition continues as the films enter their second weekend.
‘War 2’ had a strong opening, collecting Rs 52 crore on its first day, followed by Rs 57.85 crore on Day 2, representing an 11.25% increase. However, the earnings declined on Day 3 with Rs 33.25 crore, and further dipped slightly to Rs 32.65 crore on Day 4, bringing the extended weekend total to nearly Rs 176 crore. The film saw a significant drop on Day 5, earning just Rs 8.75 crore (down 73.20%), but rebounded somewhat on Day 6 with Rs 9 crore and Rs 5.75 crore on Day 7. Day 8’s early estimates were Rs 5 crore. This brings the film’s 8-day total to Rs 204.25 crore across all languages. Despite the post-weekend drop, ‘War 2’ has managed to surpass the Rs 200 crore mark within its initial week.
Early estimates show the film earned Rs 4 crore net on Day 9 across all languages, raising its total collection in India to Rs 208.25 crore.
‘War 2’, a sequel to the 2019 hit ‘War’, was released on August 14, 2025. The movie features Hrithik Roshan returning as Agent Kabir after a six-year hiatus. NTR Jr. joins the cast as Agent Vikram. Anil Kapoor and Ashutosh Rana also play important roles.
Rajinikanth’s ‘Coolie’ had a blockbuster opening week. The movie started with a massive Rs 65 crore on its first day, with Tamil Nadu collections contributing Rs 44.5 crore. The Hindi version added Rs 4.5 crore, Telugu Rs 15.5 crore, and Kannada Rs 0.5 crore. Day 2 saw a 15.77% decrease, earning Rs 54.75 crore, followed by Rs 39.5 crore on Day 3 and Rs 35.25 crore on Day 4, resulting in an extended weekend total of over Rs 194 crore. The film experienced a typical Monday drop with Rs 12 crore, and further dropped to Rs 9.5 crore on Day 6 and Rs 7.5 crore on Day 7.
The film added approximately Rs 6.25 crore on Day 8 (early estimates), increasing its 8-day total to Rs 229.75 crore across all languages. Despite considerable drops following the opening weekend, ‘Coolie’ has become a significant success, crossing the Rs 200 crore mark in its first week.
Preliminary data from Sacnilk indicates that ‘Coolie’ collected Rs 5.50 crore net on its ninth day across all languages in India, bringing its total domestic collection to Rs 235.15 crore.
The plot of ‘Coolie’ centers on Deva, a former gold smuggler who now works as a coolie. His goal is to regain his former glory by reviving his old gang, using stolen technology hidden within vintage golden watches, which leads to unforeseen outcomes.
The cast includes Soubin Shahir, Upendra, Sathyaraj, Shruti Haasan, Rachita Ram, Reba Monica John, Junior MGR, Kanna Ravi, Monisha Blessy, and Kaali Venkat. Aamir Khan will be seen in a cameo appearance. It is produced by Kalanithi Maran under Sun Pictures.
