The ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 is set to see a venue change, with Navi Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium taking the place of Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium. The shift was confirmed after the Karnataka State Association failed to obtain the required government approvals to stage matches. The ICC made the announcement on Friday, August 22. The decision to remove Bengaluru from the venue list came after concerns about crowd management and safety protocols. This was triggered by the tragic stampede during celebrations of RCB’s IPL title victory. The DY Patil Stadium will now host three league games, a semi-final, and potentially the final, contingent on Pakistan’s qualification. Should Pakistan qualify, the final will be held at Colombo’s R Premadasa Stadium. The tournament is scheduled from September 30 to November 2, with league matches leading into semi-finals and the final. The top four teams from the league phase will move on to the knockout rounds. The DY Patil Stadium provides a strong alternative, noted for its modern amenities and history of hosting major cricket events, which ensures exceptional conditions for both participants and spectators, ensuring India’s central role in the event.
