The 130th Constitutional Amendment Bill, 2025, which includes provisions for removing Prime Ministers, Chief Ministers, and ministers arrested on serious criminal charges after 30 days, is now set to be examined by a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC). Initially, the opposition had expressed reservations about participating in the JPC, with some parties considering it an unconstitutional move. However, the decision has been made for opposition MPs to join the JPC. The names of the opposition members who will be part of the JPC are expected to be announced today. The JPC will comprise 21 members from the Lok Sabha and 10 from the Rajya Sabha. On Thursday, the Rajya Sabha approved a proposal to send three bills to a joint committee, including the one related to the removal of arrested government officials. The JPC has been directed to submit its report in the next (winter) session of Parliament, which is expected to begin in the third week of November.
