The United States’ efforts to weaken Hezbollah in Lebanon have hit a roadblock as the Lebanese army refuses to take action against the group. US diplomats met with Lebanese officials in an attempt to pressure them into disarming Hezbollah. However, the army’s leadership has stated that it will not undertake any measures that could destabilize the nation. The US envoys, including Thomas Barrack and Morgan Ortagus, met with key Lebanese figures, including the President, Prime Minister, and Speaker of Parliament. During their discussions, the army chief was directly asked if the military would act to disarm Hezbollah, but the response was a firm refusal, citing concerns for the country’s peace and stability.
