The upcoming Apple iPhone 17 Series, expected to launch in September, is generating significant buzz with new details emerging. A recent report highlights that all models in the iPhone 17 Series will be manufactured in India. This production will take place across five local factories, with two recently starting operations.
This is the first time all new iPhone models, including the premium Pro versions, will be manufactured in India. This move is a key part of Apple’s strategy to decrease its dependence on China for shipments to the United States and to mitigate potential tariff risks. Apple has already relocated a substantial portion of its iPhone production for the American market from China to India.
Increased Exports
The Tata Group plant in Hosur, Tamil Nadu, and Foxconn’s hub near the Bengaluru airport are major contributors to this expansion. Tata has managed around half of India’s iPhone production in the past two years. This shift has significantly boosted India’s export figures. From April to July this year, India’s iPhone exports reached $7.5 billion, while the figure for the entire previous fiscal year was $17 billion.
The imposition of significant tariffs on Chinese goods by the Trump administration has presented Apple with an uncertain trade environment in the US. Despite iPhones generally being shielded from large-scale tariffs, a former US president stated that if Apple wants to manufacture iPhones for the US market, the production should be based in America, and not in China or India.
