Tarun Majumdar’s Hindi remake of his Bengali film, ‘Balika Badhu’, starring Rajni Sharma, was a success. Sharma, the newcomer in the lead, later appeared in smaller roles. Sachin, playing the husband, also gained appreciation, while Asrani and Kajri, as the inquisitive relatives, were highly praised. The film authentically captured the Bengali ambiance and propelled Amit Kumar to fame as a singer. R.D. Burman’s musical direction contributed to the song’s widespread popularity.
When Amit Kumar sings the famous “Bade Achche Lagte Hain,” he’s expressing his appreciation of nature and marveling at how R.D. Burman’s creation became so much more than just a song.
Amit Kumar remembers that Pancham (R.D. Burman) asked his father to send him to a recording. Kumar’s father was initially unsure. Burman explained he required a fresh, young voice for a Shakti Samanta production. Burman wanted a voice that sounded like a 17-year-old. Despite the initial doubts, Kumar’s father was happy. Amit Kumar then sang “Bade Achche Lagte Hain.” The song took three years to gain widespread popularity, eventually becoming a household favorite and a landmark in his career, giving him his own identity separate from his father, Kishore Kumar. Kumar acknowledges R.D. Burman’s influence, as Burman encouraged him to find his own vocal style, forbidding him from imitating his father.
