Honorable member of Jharkhand State Child Rights Protection Commission, Mr. Ujjwal Prakash Tiwari, visited Chatra district on 17th and 18th August. During the two-day visit, he inspected various aspects related to child rights and protection in the district and gave necessary guidelines by holding a review meeting of the concerned departments.
On the first day of the visit, Mr. Tiwari visited the town after offering prayers at Itkhori temple. In this sequence, he also inspected the mining area of Hunterganj block, where he took stock of the condition of children found involved in child labor. On the other hand, in the review meeting held in the Collectorate auditorium on the second day, officials of social security cell, District Child Protection Unit, Child Welfare Committee, Education, Health, Mining, Welfare, Social Welfare, Panchayati Raj, Municipal Council and Transport Department including other departments related to child protection were present. In the meeting, the work of the departments was reviewed and emphasis was laid on the need to take concrete steps regarding the safety and rights of children. Addressing the meeting, Mr. Tiwari said that a special campaign should be launched to stop the operation of trucks, tractors and heavy vehicles by minor children (below 18 years) in the district. Bus stands should be constructed at major places to ensure the safety of children. Mandatory registration of all private schools should be done. Drop-out children should be identified and re-connected with education. Concrete initiatives should be taken in the direction of declaring Chatra as a free blood donor zone. All police stations of the district should be developed as child-friendly police stations. Special campaigns should be conducted every 15 days for the eradication of child labor. Camps should be organized to identify disabled children and provide them the benefit of pension scheme. The adoption process should be simplified and complaint boxes should be installed in panchayat and urban areas.
Mr. Tiwari said that all departments should work in mutual coordination on issues related to child protection so that the safety of children and their overall development can be ensured.
He also met the Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police separately and discussed giving special attention to the activities related to child shelter homes and child protection and ensuring the expected cooperation from the police department.
On this occasion, the Deputy Development Commissioner and senior officials of various departments, representatives of the Child Welfare Committee and Child Protection Unit were present.
