A resident of Bath village in Bhagalpur, Bihar, Ramesh Mishra, is fighting to prove he is alive after his son and daughter-in-law fraudulently declared him dead to facilitate a land sale. Mishra, a retiree from the Jharkhand Transport Department, found that his son, Kundan Mishra, and daughter-in-law, Rupam Mishra, had fabricated documents to sell his land. The plot thickened when villagers started calling Mishra a ‘ghost,’ leading him to uncover the deceit. The land was reportedly sold to Lucy Kumari, wife of Rajesh Kumar. Despite attempts to get the local authorities to intervene, including filing a written application at Bath police station and complaints to higher officials, Mishra received no assistance. Frustrated with the lack of action, he has now taken the case to the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) court, where he presented an affidavit as proof of life. The court has ordered the Bath police station to submit a detailed investigation report, which will determine the future course of action. The incident has become a major talking point in the region, highlighting the shocking lengths to which greed and deceit can extend within families.
