Ahead of the SCO Summit, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval in a key diplomatic encounter. The meeting emphasized the improving relationship between the two nations.
Ajit Doval emphasized the positive trajectory of relations, noting that the borders are calm, with peace and tranquility prevailing. He mentioned the increased bilateral engagements and acknowledged the leaders’ efforts in Kazan, which have brought benefits since then. Doval expressed his optimism regarding the upcoming 24th Special Representative Level Talks, viewing them as significant in light of the Prime Minister’s visit for the SCO Summit.
Wang Yi expressed his satisfaction at the meeting in New Delhi for discussions on the boundary question, acknowledging that past challenges were detrimental to both countries. He pointed out the meeting between President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Modi in Kazan last year as crucial in shaping the direction of bilateral relations and progress in resolving the boundary issue.
The meeting aims to build upon recent progress and maintain the positive momentum in their ongoing dialogue. The meeting between Wang and India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar set the stage for moving forward. Later today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will meet Wang Yi, a development indicating a potential softening of ties between the two nations.
