IIT Madras has achieved a breakthrough with the development of India’s first Silicon Photonics-based high-speed Quantum Random Number Generator (QRNG). This technology is set to enhance IT security in critical areas such as military and defense, financial transactions, blockchain, and gaming. Indrarka Quantum Technologies Pvt. Ltd. will handle the commercial deployment of the QRNG, which was created by a team of scientists, students, and professors at IIT Madras through academia-industry cooperation. The technology, developed at IIT Madras’s Centre for Programmable Photonic Integrated Circuit and Systems (CPPICS), has strategic value, promoting India’s quantum innovation ecosystem.
A licensing agreement has been established between IIT Madras and the private company for this groundbreaking technology. The QRNG has several essential applications, including cryptographic algorithms and Quantum Key Distribution. The project’s development also acknowledges the support of MeitY, Government of India. This initiative exemplifies how research and development, supported by robust industry partnerships, can lead to technologies of significant national importance. The QRNG module’s successful deployment marks a remarkable achievement in India’s research landscape.
