WhatsApp, owned by Meta, is set to integrate an AI assistant into its chat feature to aid users in writing messages. The new feature, ‘Writing Help,’ will help users by improving message accuracy, fixing grammar mistakes, and adjusting the tone of messages to personalize them before sending.
How Writing Help will function: The feature is presently being tested on WhatsApp Beta (Android). When a user starts typing a message, a small pen icon will appear instead of the sticker icon. Tapping on this icon will send the message to Meta AI. Meta AI will then provide three alternative versions of the message, such as professional, supportive, funny, or rephrased text. Users can then choose an option and make further edits as needed. The receiver of the message will not be able to detect that the message was AI-generated.
Privacy and Data Security: Meta assures that Writing Help will use private processing technology. This ensures that message requests are encrypted and transmitted anonymously, without linking back to any user or source. WhatsApp also states that it does not retain data and will only offer AI suggestions when Writing Help is actively used.
Who will benefit from this feature? This feature can be especially helpful for individuals seeking to maintain a professional demeanor in business chats, those aiming to inject humor into conversations with friends, or individuals who occasionally find it challenging to compose messages.
Important points to note: Writing Help is currently available to selected beta testers only. It is possible that changes and additional tones may be incorporated prior to the public release. The feature is disabled by default and is entirely optional. The app will never send AI-generated content without the user’s consent. In short, WhatsApp’s new Writing Help feature enables users to customize their chats for professionalism, entertainment, or support, with the user retaining control.
