Massive protests are unfolding across Israel, with citizens demanding the release of hostages and a ceasefire in Gaza. Demonstrators are voicing their concerns that the ongoing military operations in Gaza are putting the hostages’ lives at risk. The protestors are urging the Netanyahu government to negotiate a ceasefire to facilitate the hostages’ safe return. Police have responded by arresting 25 protestors in various Israeli cities, including Jerusalem.
In the capital, police deployed water cannons and engaged in physical confrontations with protestors attempting to access the city via a key tunnel, preventing their entry. The protests have since shifted towards Aza Street, where the Prime Minister’s residence is located, despite the police intervention. A protestor detained near the tunnel declared, “Arrest me, but the protest movement will continue.”
Former hostages have highlighted the ineffectiveness of military solutions.
Arbel Yehud, a former hostage who was released, addressed a gathering at Tel Aviv’s Hostage Square. She stated, “I understand what it means to be a prisoner. I know that military actions don’t rescue the hostages, but lead to their deaths. The only way to get them back is through a deal, without any further delays.”
The police have reported the arrest of 25 individuals this morning across the country, amidst widespread protests, and road blockages aimed at securing the release of hostages and establishing a ceasefire. These demonstrations began in response to the Israeli cabinet’s decision to fully occupy Gaza, emphasizing the need for an immediate agreement to release the hostages.
