Lionel Messi is scheduled to make a highly anticipated return to India in late 2025, delighting football enthusiasts across the nation. Event organizer Satadru Dutta announced that Messi will undertake a tour across three major Indian cities, commencing in Kolkata on December 12, 2025. The tour, officially named the ‘GOAT Tour of India 2025’, will also include visits to Ahmedabad, Mumbai, and New Delhi, concluding with a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 15. Messi previously played in India in 2011, when he led Argentina in a friendly match in Kolkata. Dutta shared the process of securing Messi’s visit, including presenting a tour proposal to Messi’s father and a 45-minute meeting with Messi on February 28. The Kolkata schedule involves a meet-and-greet at Taj Bengal and a special tea-tasting event featuring a blend of Argentine mate and Indian Assam tea. Beyond promotional events, Messi will conduct masterclasses for children in each city, offering his expertise to the next generation of Indian football players. There’s speculation that some of Messi’s Inter Miami teammates might accompany him, though official details are pending. The tour promises to be a significant moment for Indian football, celebrating Messi’s legacy while fostering the sport’s development within the country.
