The upcoming Assembly elections in Bihar have sparked controversy, with accusations of irregularities in the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls. Allegations involve the potential inclusion of deceased individuals and the exclusion of eligible voters. Tejashwi Yadav, the RJD’s CM candidate and son of Lalu Prasad Yadav, has raised concerns about his name’s absence from the draft voter list. He stated that despite completing the enumeration form during the SIR, his name was not found in the electoral roll. JDU reacted by accusing Tejashwi of misleading the public. Tejashwi stated in a press conference that his name was missing, further expressing concern that even his EPIC number details were not accessible. The Patna district administration responded by clarifying that his name is present, but his polling station and serial number were altered. Tejashwi questioned the extent of the changes made to voter information, alleging a conspiracy to suppress voter registration. The JDU’s Neeraj Kumar condemned Tejashwi’s actions, calling him a ‘political fraud’. The Election Commission refuted Tejashwi’s claims, asserting that his name is correctly listed. The Election Commission confirmed that Tejashwi’s name is in the electoral roll at Serial Number 416. The draft electoral roll for Bihar has been released. The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) is a process to verify the voter list, and objections can be filed from August 1 to September 1, 2025. The last intensive revision was held in 2003. Voters can check their details on the ECI website.
