Chief Minister Hemant Soren is actively involved in the preparations for the traditional Shraadh ceremony of his late father, Shibu Soren, the former Chief Minister of Jharkhand and a Rajya Sabha MP. The village of Nemra is abuzz with activity as the community gears up for the event. Soren personally took charge, driving an e-rickshaw to survey the arrangements and ensure everything is in place.
For the past ten days, following his father’s passing, Hemant Soren has been staying in Nemra, adhering to traditional rituals. During his inspection, he visited each pandal, carefully examining the security, cleanliness, water supply, parking, seating, and toilet facilities. He instructed officials to make sure all necessary provisions are available to the public, and that traffic flow is managed efficiently.
Local residents, along with relatives and villagers from afar, are contributing to the preparations, following traditional customs and local practices. The village is being decorated, cleaned, and organized, with over 300 e-rickshaws planned to transport people from parking areas to the ceremony site. Three large parking lots have been constructed.
Additional amenities include bio-toilets near parking areas, shaded resting spots, and pagodas for protection from the elements. Three large pandals will host the food service, serving both local cuisine and traditional Prasad. Volunteers and cooks are in place to maintain cleanliness and smooth operations.
A police control room has been set up to manage security and traffic. Security personnel include 10 IPS officers, 60 DSPs, 65 inspectors, and approximately 2500 police personnel. The district administration is on high alert, with teams dedicated to traffic management, emergency services, and crowd control working around the clock.
A special exhibition and memorial gallery will be established to honor Shibu Soren’s life, showcasing his political contributions, work for the tribal community, and his dedication to public service. The display will feature rare photos, historical documents, and achievements from his time in office.
Shibu Soren passed away on August 4 at a Delhi hospital. His son, Hemant Soren, performed the final rites in Nemra on August 5. The Shraadh feast is scheduled for August 16, expecting approximately 2 lakh attendees. Helipads have been arranged for VVIP guests, and security will be provided by IPS officers, DSPs, inspectors, constables, and a substantial number of additional personnel.
