Tesla is set to inaugurate its second retail location in India, marking a significant stride in the country’s electric vehicle market. The new Tesla Experience Centre will open its doors on August 11th at the WorldMark 3 campus in Aerocity, Delhi, catering to customers in the National Capital Region, a key area for electric vehicle adoption in India. This expansion quickly follows the opening of its first showroom at the Maker Maxity Mall in Mumbai on July 15th, an event attended by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. He expressed his support for Tesla’s entry and encouraged the company to establish R&D and manufacturing units within the state. Construction of the Aerocity center is nearing completion, with estimated monthly rent amounting to approximately Rs 25 lakh. The brand’s premium image is already evident through visuals shared on social media. Tesla currently offers only the Model Y in the Indian market, with prices beginning at Rs 59.89 lakh (ex-showroom). The Model Y is offered in two versions: a standard rear-wheel drive model, featuring a 60 kWh battery with a 500 km WLTP-certified range, and a long-range rear-wheel drive version with a 75 kWh battery, capable of up to 622 km range. Deliveries are initially focused on key cities such as Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, and Gurugram, utilizing flat-bed trucks for direct home delivery. Furthermore, Tesla has updated its website to facilitate vehicle registration across all Indian states and union territories, extending its market reach. Although slated for a later release, the website lists the Full Self-Driving (FSD) feature as an optional addition costing Rs 6 lakh. The launch of the Model Y is complemented by the introduction of Tesla’s India website, signifying the company’s commitment to growth in India, despite the challenges of existing EV policies and infrastructure.
