From Nawada, a curious story emerged. Three friends escaped from their homes and made their way to Surat, Gujarat. Upon reaching Surat, two of the friends decided to get married. One became the ‘groom,’ another the ‘bride,’ and the third friend took on the role of the ‘brother-in-law.’ They then began cohabitating. Their families reported them missing, and the police investigation led them to Surat. The girls were located and are currently being questioned.
When word spread in the village, everyone was stunned. The incident took place in the Akbarpur block area and came to light on Tuesday when the Nemdarganj police and Surat police worked together to recover the girls. The three underage friends, all students at the same school, left home on July 19, claiming they were going to collect their mark sheets. Two of them were from one village, and the other was from a different village. They had a pre-arranged plan to live together.
After they disappeared, their families spent two days searching without any luck. On July 21, a missing person report was filed at the Nemdarganj police station. The police investigation revealed that the girls were working in a textile mill in Patel Nagar, Surat. The most surprising aspect of this case was that two of the girls had married each other, with one playing the bride and the other the groom. The third girl was living with them as the brother-in-law.
After a joint operation by the Surat and Nemdarganj police, the girls were brought back to Nawada. When they arrived at the police station, the sight of one girl with sindoor and the other as a husband left people bewildered. The third girl’s role as the brother-in-law has sparked a lot of discussion. The incident has become a topic of interest and debate not just in Nawada, but across Bihar.
According to Nemdarganj police station in-charge Vinay Kumar, it is an extraordinary case, and the police are thoroughly investigating all angles. The legal course of action will be determined only after the girls’ statements are recorded.
