The United States is working on a sophisticated missile defense system, the Golden Dome, inspired by Israel’s Iron Dome. The project, announced after the former President’s re-election, aims to provide a comprehensive defense against various threats. The Golden Dome will be composed of four layers. This system’s design involves a satellite-based sensor and tracking system at the top, complemented by three ground-based layers featuring interceptors, radar, and potentially laser weapons. A primary goal of the Golden Dome is to intercept missiles during their boost phase, in the initial stages of their ascent. This will involve space-based interceptors to neutralize incoming missiles more efficiently. The system is being developed to address the vastness and varied threats across the United States, making it larger and more advanced than its Israeli counterpart. The project’s estimated cost is around $175 billion, with the goal to complete it by 2028.
