Abhimanyu Easwaran, a promising young batsman, is part of the Indian Test squad but has yet to play his first match for the team. He remained on the sidelines during both the Australian and English series. Recently, Ranganathan Easwaran, the player’s father, shared his son’s disappointment at not getting a chance. Former India captain and ex-BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has now offered his perspective on the situation. Ganguly believes that Easwaran needs to make a crucial move to break into the team.
Discussing the matter with The Times of India, Sourav Ganguly stated, “He is young, and I believe he will definitely get an opportunity. Players like Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, and Jadeja have all proven their worth. The number three position is somewhat vulnerable, and Easwaran could be given a chance there. It’s a position where Abhimanyu can showcase his abilities.”
Easwaran’s father also revealed that Gautam Gambhir had a conversation with his son, reassuring him that he was on the right track and that his opportunity would come. The Indian team’s head coach echoed this sentiment, stating, “I won’t remove you from the team after just one or two matches.”
In terms of statistics, Abhimanyu Easwaran has an impressive first-class record. He has not yet made his international debut, but in 103 first-class matches, he has scored 7841 runs at an average of 48.70. This includes 27 centuries and 31 half-centuries. His highest score in first-class cricket is 233. In List A matches, he has played 89 games, accumulating 3857 runs at an average of 47.03, with 9 centuries and 23 half-centuries, and a top score of 149.
