A major road accident unfolded on the Harmu Bypass Road in Ranchi, Jharkhand, a route often referred to as a VIP thoroughfare. Near the BJP’s Jharkhand state office in the Argora police station area, a speeding vehicle struck five individuals. The event has triggered widespread shock and concern across the capital city.
The incident resulted in the immediate deaths of three people, while two others sustained severe injuries. The injured were swiftly transported to a nearby hospital, where they are currently receiving medical care and battling for their lives. Preliminary reports indicate that the driver of the car was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.
Following the devastating accident and the loss of three lives at the scene, a large crowd gathered and expressed their outrage. The enraged group blocked the road by placing the victims’ bodies on the pavement, causing a complete traffic standstill. Local residents have voiced criticism, alleging that the ambulance took an hour to arrive at the accident site, despite the road being a designated VIP area. They suggest that earlier medical assistance might have saved lives.
The impact of the crash was substantial, with the speeding Fortuner car colliding with five pedestrians. The vehicle then veered off, crossed the divider, and collided with a tree on the opposite side of the road. The driver of the Fortuner is believed to have been intoxicated. The agitated crowd apprehended the driver, but law enforcement officers from the Argora police station intervened and took the accused driver into custody.
After considerable efforts, the authorities managed to calm the crowd and restore order. DSP PK Mishra of Hatia assured that strict legal measures would be taken against the accused. Subsequently, the protesters cleared the road. DSP Mishra confirmed that a speeding Fortuner had been driven negligently, leading to the accident, which resulted in three fatalities and two injuries. He added that the injured individuals are receiving medical treatment and that the accused will face severe consequences.
