Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, two of India’s most celebrated batsmen, find themselves in a precarious position within the ODI setup. Having retired from T20 and Test formats, their presence in the ODI team is also under scrutiny. The Australia tour could potentially mark the end of their ODI careers. Reports indicate that the team management may not include these veterans in their plans for the 2027 World Cup, raising the possibility of retirement post the Australian series. Additionally, the players might need to demonstrate their form in the Vijay Hazare Trophy to remain in contention. While official statements are awaited, the BCCI is contemplating whether Kohli and Sharma should participate in three ODIs prior to the Australia series to regain their form. The Australia series will be held from October 19 to 25. The BCCI is also considering having the players participate in the India A vs Australia A series, scheduled between September 30 and October 5, as a warm-up before the main tour.
