Tesla is set to expand its footprint in India’s electric vehicle market with the imminent opening of its second retail center. The new Tesla Experience Centre will open its doors on August 11 in Aerocity, Delhi, at the prestigious WorldMark 3 campus. This location is strategically chosen to serve customers in the National Capital Region, a vital hub for India’s electric vehicle initiatives. The new center’s launch comes just weeks after the inaugural showroom opened in Mumbai’s Maker Maxity Mall on July 15th. The Mumbai event saw the participation of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who expressed support for Tesla’s entry and encouraged the company to establish research and development and manufacturing units in the state. Construction of the Aerocity center is nearing completion, with the estimated monthly rent being around Rs 25 lakh. Images of the outlet have already been circulated on social media, reflecting Tesla’s brand image. Currently, Tesla’s Indian market offerings are limited to the Model Y, with prices starting from Rs 59.89 lakh (ex-showroom). The Model Y offers two variants: a Standard rear-wheel drive model equipped with a 60 kWh battery, providing a 500 km WLTP-certified range; and a Long-range rear-wheel drive variant that features a 75 kWh battery with a range of up to 622 km. Deliveries are being prioritized for buyers in major cities like Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, and Gurugram, with direct-to-home delivery via flat-bed trucks. Additionally, Tesla has updated its website to facilitate vehicle registration across all Indian states and union territories, thus expanding its reach. The Full Self-Driving (FSD) feature is listed as an optional upgrade for Rs 6 lakh, though its availability in India is yet to be announced. The launch of the Model Y also coincides with the launch of Tesla’s dedicated India website, highlighting Tesla’s commitment to the Indian market despite existing challenges related to electric vehicle policies and infrastructure.
