The movie based on the Kanhaiya Lal murder case in Rajasthan has been released after facing various legal challenges. The film’s release was contested from the High Court to the Supreme Court. Despite the legal battles and required edits, the film is now available to the public. Kanhaiya Lal Sahu’s sons, Yash and Tarun, attended a screening at Udaipur’s Urban Square Mall. They were deeply affected by the scene depicting Kanhaiya Lal’s murder, unable to control their emotions.
Following the screening, producer Amit Jani shared a video of the grieving sons on social media. He appealed to the audience to support the film, stating that the proceeds from ‘Udaipur Files’ would be given to Kanhaiya’s family.
In a social media post, the producer emphasized the importance of recognizing the family’s pain, urging viewers to prioritize the film’s success. Jani expressed his goal of generating enough revenue in one week to provide the family with a 50 crore check. He contrasted this with other instances where profits went to those who created controversial content, highlighting the commitment to supporting Kanhaiya Lal’s family.

Legal battles were fought in both the High Court and Supreme Court before the film’s release. The Supreme Court ordered certain scenes to be removed. The individuals involved in the murder attempted to block the film’s release. However, the Supreme Court left the final decision on releasing the film to the central government, leading to its release on August 8.
The film ‘Udaipur Files’ depicts the June 2022 murder of Kanhaiya Lal, a tailor in Udaipur, Rajasthan. The murder ignited nationwide controversy, stemming from a dispute over comments made by BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma concerning the Prophet Muhammad. Kanhaiya Lal’s support for Sharma’s stance, shared on social media, led to his brutal murder by Mohammad Riyaz and Mohammad Gaus.
