The Indian team’s performance in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy resulted in a 2-2 draw in the Test series. Some players, however, didn’t get a chance to play, leading to disappointment for one opening batsman. His father disclosed the player’s frustration regarding not being selected, including a conversation where the cricketer expressed his disappointment to his father. Head Coach Gautam Gambhir has since provided a substantial level of reassurance to the player, potentially signaling the end of a four-year wait for opening batsman Abhimanyu Easwaran.
Abhimanyu Easwaran was expecting to play in the fifth Test against England, but he was disheartened upon not being included in the playing XI. According to his father, Ranganathan Parameswaran Easwaran, during an interview, his son confided in him over the phone, stating he still hadn’t been given a spot in the team.
Despite performing well for India-A in England, Easwaran was overlooked for the playing XI. He was first selected in the Indian team in 2021-22, but has yet to make his debut. Easwaran’s father also mentioned that coach Gautam Gambhir has given his son considerable support.
After the final Test, opening batsman Abhimanyu Easwaran remained dejected. Coach Gautam Gambhir spoke with him, according to his father, assuring him that he was on the right path and would eventually get his opportunity. Gambhir indicated that Easwaran would have a lengthy career with the Indian team.
Gautam Gambhir promised, “I am not the kind to remove you from the team after a match or two. You will get a long opportunity.” Abhimanyu shared with his father that the entire coaching staff has expressed their faith in him, assuring him that he would get his due. Parameswaran Easwaran noted that his son has waited four years for the opportunity to play for his country, and has dedicated 23 years to the sport. After returning from England, Abhimanyu has commenced preparations for the Duleep Trophy.
Easwaran’s father added that his son would be heading to Bengaluru to prepare for the Duleep Trophy. He will be there for 10-12 days, then return to Dehradun briefly before going back. Although Abhimanyu Easwaran was included in the Indian team in 2021-22, he has not yet played in the playing XI, while 15 other players have made their Test debuts since then. The opening batsman has played 103 first-class matches and has scored 7841 runs with an average of 48.70.
