The India-England Test series, comprising five matches, is known for its intensity and duration. Following such a demanding series, managing the workload of players becomes a key consideration to avoid injuries. This article, however, focuses on two cricketers who seemed unfazed by this concern. They participated in The Hundred tournament just four days after the conclusion of the Test series, and their performance led their team to a win.
These players, who left their mark in the India-England Test series, are England’s Jack Crawley and Harry Brook. On August 7th, they played their first match in The Hundred, where they played key roles in the Northern Superchargers’ win in their season opener.
Northern Superchargers played against Welsh Fire, whose lineup included Steve Smith, Jonny Bairstow, and Tom Kohler. Welsh Fire batted first, scoring 143 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in their 100-ball innings, setting a target of 144 for the Northern Superchargers.
Jack Crawley and Dawid Malan opened for Northern Superchargers, quickly scoring 91 runs in 52 balls. Malan was dismissed after scoring 41 runs from 29 balls, but Crawley continued to bat. Michael Pepper came in to support but was out for just 4 runs. Brook then joined Crawley, and they dominated the bowling attack. Their batting performance showed no signs of fatigue from the Test series.
Both Crawley and Brook remained unbeaten, leading Northern Superchargers to victory. Crawley scored 67 runs off 38 balls, including 4 sixes and 5 fours. Brook added 25 runs off 15 balls with 2 sixes and 1 four. Northern Superchargers successfully chased down the target, scoring 147 runs for the loss of just 2 wickets in 89 balls, winning by 8 wickets with 11 balls to spare. Jack Crawley was awarded the Player of the Match.
