After the December 2024 coup that ended Bashar al-Assad’s long-standing rule, expectations for a reformed government arose. However, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights has released a report that paints a grim picture of the current situation.
The report highlights that from December 8, 2024, to August 6, 2025, nearly ten thousand lives were lost in Syria. These deaths were caused by constant violence, abuse from local and international factions, and widespread insecurity. Among the dead were 7,449 civilians, including many children and women. This data illustrates how precarious conditions are in Syria and how much danger the most vulnerable people are in.
