Pakistan’s Army Chief, General Asim Munir, is embarking on another visit to the United States, his second in just two months. This visit comes at a time of heightened global trade tensions. General Munir will attend the farewell ceremony for General Michael E. Kurilla, the commander of US Central Command (CENTCOM), in Tampa, Florida. This event signifies the continued strengthening of military and strategic relations between Pakistan and the US. The timing of the visit raises questions, especially considering recent developments like the US imposing additional tariffs on India and the ongoing discussions about establishing an oil storage facility in Pakistan. During his previous visit in June, General Munir met with Donald Trump. The meeting involved discussions and mutual appreciation of efforts in managing the tensions between India and Pakistan. Discussions of the meeting indicated a positive exchange, including Trump’s acknowledgement of Munir’s efforts and a suggestion by Munir that Trump should be considered for the Nobel Peace Prize.
