The Chhattisgarh government has altered the provisions of its half-electricity bill scheme. The revision entails a shift from a discount on 400 units to a 50% reduction for consumption up to 100 units monthly. The government clarified that around 31 lakh out of the state’s 45 lakh household consumers (roughly 70%) use less than 100 units each month. Consequently, despite the changes, these 31 lakh families in need, comprising both standard and vulnerable groups, will continue to gain from the scheme. Nearly 70% of the state’s residential consumers will continue to enjoy the same benefits as before. The state government is committed to alleviating the electricity expenses for underprivileged families.
