Former Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satyapal Malik died at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in Delhi on Tuesday after battling a long-term illness. The hospital announced his passing at 1:10 pm. His PS, KS Rana, also confirmed the sad news. Malik served as the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir from August 2018 to October 2019. This period was marked by the repeal of Article 370 on August 5, 2019, which is the sixth anniversary of this event today. Before his time in J&K, he also held the governorships of Goa and Meghalaya, with his term in Meghalaya concluding in October 2022. Malik’s political career began in the 1970s, starting as a socialist leader. He was elected as an MLA from Baghpat in 1974 under the banner of the Bharatiya Kranti Dal and subsequently held the position of general secretary of the Lok Dal. Additionally, he represented Uttar Pradesh in the Rajya Sabha from 1980 to 1989.
