I am going through the most difficult days of my life.
Not only has the shadow of my father been lost,
The pillar of Jharkhand’s soul has departed.
I didn’t just call him ‘Baba’.
He was my guide, the roots of my thoughts,
And the shadow like a forest
Which saved thousands of Jharkhandis
From the sun and injustice.
My Baba’s beginning was very simple.
Born in that small house in Nemra village,
Where there was poverty, hunger, but courage.
He lost his father in childhood.
The exploitation of the landlords gave him a fire
That made him a lifelong struggler.
I have seen him
plowing fields,
sitting among the people,
He didn’t just give speeches,
He lived the sorrows of the people.
In childhood, when I asked him:
“Baba, why do people call you Dishom Guru?”
He would smile and say:
“Because son, I understood their sorrow
and made their struggle my own.”
That title was not written in any book,
nor given by the Parliament –
It came from the hearts of the people of Jharkhand.
‘Dishom’ means society,
‘Guru’ means the one who shows the way.
And to be honest,
Baba not only showed us the way,
he taught us to walk.
In childhood, I only saw him struggling, fighting against the powerful.
I was scared.
But Baba never got scared.
He used to say:
“If standing up against injustice is a crime,
then I will be guilty again and again.”
Baba’s struggle cannot be understood by any book.
It was in his sweat, in his voice,
and in his torn heels covered by his slippers.
When Jharkhand state was formed,
his dream came true.
But he never considered power an achievement.
He said:
“This state is not a chair for me,
it is the identity of my people.”
Today Baba is no more,
but his voice echoes within me.
I learned to fight from you, Baba,
not to bow down.
I learned to love Jharkhand from you,
without any selfishness.
Now you are not with us,
but you are in every path of Jharkhand.
In every beat of the Mandar,
in every field’s soil,
in the eyes of every poor person.
You saw the dream,
now it is my promise.
I will not let Jharkhand bow down,
I will not let your name be erased.
Your struggle will not remain incomplete.
Baba, now you rest.
You have fulfilled your duty.
Now we have to walk
on your footsteps.
Jharkhand will remain indebted to you.
Me, your son,
will keep your word.

Jai Jharkhand, Jai Jai Jharkhand.
