Tesla has inaugurated its initial charging station in India, marking a significant step for electric vehicle owners. This new facility, which started operations on August 4, 2025, is situated in Mumbai’s Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC). The station includes four Supercharging stalls and four Destination Charging stalls.
The Supercharging stalls provide rapid charging at 250 kilowatts, with a charging cost of ₹24 per kilowatt. Destination chargers offer a charging speed of 11 kilowatts, priced at ₹14 per kilowatt. Tesla is planning to expand its charging infrastructure by opening three more stations across India by the end of the third quarter of 2025. These stations will be located in Lower Parel, Thane, and Navi Mumbai, demonstrating Tesla’s commitment to bolstering its electric vehicle support network.
The Tesla Model Y, a mid-size electric SUV, is available in two variants in the Indian market. The Rear-Wheel Drive model starts at ₹59.89 lakh, while the Long-Range Rear-Wheel Drive variant is priced at ₹67.89 lakh. Deliveries for the base model are scheduled to commence in the third quarter of 2025, with the Long-Range variant deliveries expected in the fourth quarter (October-December). Official delivery dates are yet to be confirmed.
Tesla’s entry into India on July 15 involved the launch of the Model Y, priced from ₹59.89 lakh, and the opening of its first experience center. The initial delay in entering the Indian market, due to high import duties, was overcome by selling the Model Y as a CBU from the Shanghai plant.
