Jehanabad, Bihar witnessed a gruesome incident where a husband allegedly murdered his wife and then attempted to stage a cover-up by feigning a snakebite. The deceit, however, was exposed by the couple’s two disabled daughters, who communicated the truth to their uncle through gestures. The police have taken the accused into custody.
The incident occurred in Sultanpur village, under the jurisdiction of the Parsa Bigha police station. The victim, a mother of five, was killed by her husband after twelve years of marriage. The tragic event took place on Thursday night, leading to the immediate arrest of Ranjan Das.
The police investigation was initiated after the victim’s brother filed a complaint. The body of Rinki Devi (34) was handed over to the family after a post-mortem examination at Sadar Hospital. The victim’s brother, Bablu Kumar, a resident of Shankarganj village in the Kalpa police station area, stated that his sister married Ranjan Das, a resident of Sultanpur village in the Parsa Bigha police station area, in 2013 and they had five children, including two daughters with disabilities.
Bablu revealed that Ranjan Das, a laborer, was known for his extravagant spending habits. His sister constantly objected to this, urging him to be more mindful of their finances. The couple frequently argued over this issue. Rinki had been staying at her parents’ home for several days, trying to avoid the conflict. On Thursday, her husband convinced her to return home, but later that night, another dispute arose, and she was allegedly strangled. The husband fled the scene, and the family learned about the death the next morning. Upon arrival, the two disabled nieces communicated the truth to their uncle using gestures. The family’s search for the husband was unsuccessful, and his family had also vanished.
Later, the family found out that the husband had checked into a hospital, pretending to have been bitten by a snake. The police were informed, and they arrested the suspect. The police stated that the snakebite claim appeared suspicious in the initial investigation, and further legal action is pending.
