The Duleep Trophy is scheduled to commence on August 28, 2025, initiating the 2025–26 domestic cricket season. The season will conclude with the Senior Women’s Inter-Zonal Multi-Day Trophy on April 3, 2026. The Ranji Trophy, a key fixture in India’s domestic cricket calendar, is scheduled to commence on October 15, 2025, and will unfold across two phases: the first phase from October 15 to November 19, 2025, followed by the Elite phase from January 22 to February 1, 2026.
Shreyas Iyer, the promising Indian batsman, is confirmed to play for the West Zone in the upcoming Duleep Trophy. The zonal teams are expected to be announced on Friday afternoon in Mumbai.
Several other notable players have also expressed their interest in participating. These include Sarfaraz Khan, Shivam Dube, and Tushar Deshpande, who have all indicated their availability to the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA).
Iyer played a significant role in India’s success at the Champions Trophy 2025, held in Dubai. He also contributed to Punjab Kings’ run to the IPL 2025 final, where they lost to the Royal Challengers Bangalore in Ahmedabad.
The selection committee did not include Iyer in the ongoing Test series in England, preferring Karun Nair based on his recent form in domestic matches.
Tilak Varma will captain the South Zone team, with players like KL Rahul, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, and Washington Sundar not included in the squad.
