A statewide indefinite strike by Naib Tehsildars in Chhattisgarh commenced today, centered around a list of 17 demands. Yesterday, a large gathering of over 500 Tehsildars and Naib Tehsildars convened at the Tuta Dharna Sthal to protest. The Tehsildar Association has made it clear that they will withhold services until their resource-related requirements are fulfilled. The association’s decision to strike stems from unresolved issues.
The main demands include: adequate staffing in each tehsil, including computer operators, peons, patwaris, and revenue inspectors; transparency in Deputy Collector promotions via a 50:50 direct recruitment/promotion ratio; gazetted officer status for Naib Tehsildars; improved pay scales for Tehsildars; government vehicles and drivers for all tehsils; swift reinstatement after suspensions, with investigations completed within 15 days; excluding court-related matters from public complaints; upholding the Judge Protection Act 1985 to prevent FIRs on judicial orders; separate arrangements for court duties from protocol duties; giving Tehsildars the authority to hire staff through outsourcing; appointing trained operators for technical work (Swamitva scheme, land records, e-courts); reappointing SLR and ASLR; providing government mobile numbers; ensuring security guards and field vehicles for each tehsil; establishing clear guidelines for immediate road accident compensation; official recognition of the association for dialogue and problem resolution; and forming an expert committee to reform revenue courts.
