During a Rajya Sabha discussion, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar addressed inquiries about communications between President Trump and Prime Minister Modi, clarifying that no calls took place between April 22 and June 16. He reiterated India’s position against third-party involvement in India-Pakistan matters, underscoring that discussions must be bilateral and initiated by Pakistan through the DGMO channel. Jaishankar also criticized the Congress party’s approach to the Indus Water Treaty. He further pointed out Jawaharlal Nehru’s statement in 1960 on the treaty, suggesting a lack of concern for Indian farmers’ interests. Jaishankar argued that the current government under PM Modi has rectified Nehru’s previous stances on the Indus Water Treaty and Article 370.
