In a significant advancement for India’s defence capabilities, the DRDO carried out two successful tests of the Pralay missile. The tests were conducted on July 28th and 29th, 2025, at Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the Odisha coast. These tests were specifically designed to assess the maximum and minimum operational ranges of the missile. The Defence Ministry announced the successful completion of the tests.
The Pralay missile, an indigenous solid-fuelled quasi-ballistic missile, demonstrated exceptional accuracy by striking the designated targets. The tests also verified the optimal performance of all onboard systems through data gathered from tracking sensors and ship-based equipment.
The Pralay missile incorporates an advanced guidance and navigation system and can be equipped with multiple warheads. The missile system was developed in partnership with DRDO’s Research Centre Imarat (RCI), various supporting labs, and industrial partners, including Bharat Dynamics Limited and Bharat Electronics Limited.
The tests were attended by high-ranking DRDO scientists, officials from the Indian Air Force and Army, and representatives from industry. The Defence Minister praised the collective effort of DRDO, the armed forces, and industry, highlighting the strategic advantage the missile will give the armed forces. DRDO Chairman Dr. Sameer V Kamat expressed his satisfaction with the success of the initial tests, which will expedite the missile system’s integration into the Army.
