In an extraordinary wedding ceremony in Bihar’s Bhagalpur district, a groom, instead of arriving in a luxury car, led his baraat on a boat. The event was necessitated by the floods that had submerged the village of Bakharpur in the Pirpainti block.
With no traditional band or fanfare, the groom, Devmuni Kumar, along with around 30 others, embarked on a boat to reach the bride’s village in the Katihar district. The usual 35-kilometer journey was transformed into an eight-hour boat ride due to the floodwaters. The groom’s father mentioned that the wedding date was fixed a month earlier, before the floods devastated the area. With roads submerged, a boat became the only mode of transport.
The groom recalled that they initially used a Scorpio car for a short distance before transitioning to a boat, eventually reaching the bride’s home amidst heavy rainfall. The wedding party also transported all wedding essentials, including furniture, back to their home by boat. The groom expressed his disappointment at the absence of the traditional celebrations he had envisioned.
