Kanker district authorities in Chhattisgarh have taken action against officials for delays in the construction of houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. Three panchayat secretaries have been suspended, two have had their salaries stopped, and six have received notices. The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Kanker Zila Panchayat, Hares Mandavi, conducted a review to assess the progress of the ongoing housing projects. He instructed officials to expedite construction by ensuring the availability of materials and encouraging beneficiaries. Moreover, he emphasized the importance of involving more youths in masonry training. As a result of the review, secretaries from various villages faced disciplinary actions. The PM Awas Yojana in the district has approved 29,207 houses between 2016 and 2024, with 26,643 already completed. For the year 2024-25, the district aims to construct 37,932 houses, of which 30,103 have been approved. Beneficiaries receive funds in three installments, totaling Rs 1.20 lakh through DBT, with payments tied to construction milestones.
