Ahead of the Pune Municipal Corporation elections, a Pune-based couple made headlines by distributing 5,000 kg of chicken for free. Dhananjay and Pooja Jadhav, who are contesting from Ward No. 1, organized the giveaway through their ‘Dhananjay Jadhav Foundation’ on Gatari. This pre-Shravan day is marked by widespread consumption of non-vegetarian food. The couple aimed to provide for the community, but the event’s proximity to the elections led many to suspect it was a vote-seeking tactic. The distribution, which took place in areas including Dhanori and Bhairavnagar, drew huge crowds. Initially, there were registration and ID checks, but the influx of people caused the process to collapse. The Jadhavs ultimately had to cut the event short. The initiative has stirred controversy within the city, with some seeing it as an electioneering strategy while others view it as a bid for popularity.
