From Saturday at 10 PM, the Ghaziabad Traffic Police will implement lane closures on the Delhi-Meerut Expressway. The lane from Meerut to Delhi will be solely dedicated to Kanwariyas returning from Uttarakhand. Heavy vehicles are banned during this period. Light vehicles, such as cars and two-wheelers, can travel from Delhi towards Meerut. These restrictions are expected to continue until the Kanwar Yatra concludes, potentially on July 23rd or 24th. This decision is due to the anticipated influx of postal Kanwariyas in Ghaziabad. Vehicles originating from Meerut will be diverted to National Highway-9 (NH-9). Restrictions for heavy vehicles on the primary Kanwar routes, established on July 11, will persist. The Kanwar Yatra route in Ghaziabad spans 25 km (Muradnagar to Tila Mor) and 42.5 km (Kadarabad border to Delhi-Ghaziabad border), including an alternative route of about 53 km along the Delhi-Meerut Expressway and National Highway-9. Heavy vehicles can access NH-9 only via UP Gate and must use the Eastern Peripheral Expressway. Existing traffic regulations on the Delhi-Meerut Road will remain unchanged. The Meerut-to-Ghaziabad route is exclusively for Kanwariyas, while the opposite direction will remain open to regular traffic. Traffic police have pinpointed 12 areas with potential traffic bottlenecks. At these points, traffic will be temporarily halted to allow Kanwariyas to cross safely, with normal traffic flow resuming afterward.
