In Ranchi, Jharkhand, a tragic incident unfolded when a section of a crumbling government primary school in Tangratoli Basti collapsed. The collapse resulted in the death of Suresh Baitha, who was crushed under the debris. Three other individuals were seriously wounded in the incident.
The collapse took place early Friday morning. Rescue operations were promptly initiated by local authorities and residents. The injured were rushed to a local hospital for urgent medical attention. Further reports reveal that one individual has suffered a broken waist, and another, a broken leg.
The local community responded to the tragedy with anger, and the body of Suresh Baitha was placed on the road as a form of protest. The protesters are demanding that the district administration take immediate action to demolish the entire dilapidated school building. This is to prevent any future occurrences of such a devastating incident. In addition, the protesters are calling for fair compensation for the family of the deceased and the injured.
The school had been closed to students for several years due to its dilapidated state, with the closure occurring during the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite its condition, the structure continued to be used by local residents for various purposes, including shelter from inclement weather. On the night before the collapse, multiple individuals were reportedly sleeping within the building. The villagers are now insisting that swift financial assistance is provided to the deceased’s family and a full demolition of the unsafe structure be carried out to protect lives.
