The Federation of Indian Pilots (FIP) has strongly criticized the initial findings and public handling of the investigation into the Air India flight AI-171 crash in Ahmedabad. The FIP is particularly concerned about the absence of pilot representatives in the investigation process. They also object to how the preliminary report has been interpreted and presented publicly. The FIP asserted that the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB)’s preliminary report lacked sufficient data and appeared to rely on selected excerpts from cockpit voice recordings to imply pilot error and question the flight crew’s professionalism. The organization has called on all parties involved to avoid spreading incomplete information or making unsupported claims. They emphasized that aviation safety necessitates a commitment to facts and due process. The AAIB’s initial report stated that both engines were switched to “cutoff,” causing a fuel supply disruption. Cockpit recordings revealed a pilot questioning the other about the cutoff command, which the other denied initiating. The Ahmedabad crash of the Boeing Dreamliner 787-8 claimed the lives of 260 individuals.
