In a significant operation, security forces in Jharkhand neutralized Kunwar Manjhi, a high-ranking Naxal leader with a ₹25 lakh bounty, during an encounter in Bokaro district. The clash, which occurred in the Lugu Pahar and Birhordera regions of Gomia, resulted in the death of Manjhi and another Naxal. Tragically, a soldier from the Cobra 209 battalion was also martyred in the line of duty.
The security forces are actively engaged in extensive search operations across Jharkhand with the aim of eradicating Naxal influence. The encounter began when Naxals opened fire on a search party in the Lugu Pahar forests. The security forces retaliated, leading to the death of the two Naxals.
Kunwar Manjhi, who was the area commander, was wanted for his involvement in Naxal activities and carried a reward of ₹5 lakh. The injured Cobra jawan, who was critically injured during the firefight, succumbed to his injuries while receiving medical attention.
Following the encounter, a thorough search operation was initiated. Advanced weaponry and ammunition were seized from the Naxals during this operation.
It’s important to remember that a similar encounter occurred in the same area on April 21, 2025, resulting in the death of eight Naxals, including Prayag Manjhi alias Vivek, who carried a reward of ₹1 crore. A substantial cache of weapons, including INSAS rifles, an SLR, and a pistol, was recovered at that time.
The consistent actions of the security forces demonstrate their firm resolve to eliminate Naxalism in Jharkhand, and operations against the Naxals are expected to escalate in the future.
