Vikas, also known as Raja, the key suspect in the murder of businessman and BJP leader Gopal Khemka, was killed in a police encounter in Bihar. The Bihar Police issued a statement confirming the death. The encounter took place near Damaiya ghat at approximately 2:45 AM. Police found a pistol, a bullet, and a cartridge at the site. Authorities suspect Vikas was also involved in the illegal production and distribution of weapons.
His body has been sent to Nalanda Medical College in Patna for a post-mortem.
JD(U) leader Rajeev Ranjan said that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is overseeing the investigation. Ranjan reported that police killed the suspect after he allegedly tried to attack them. Gopal Khemka was fatally shot on the night of July 4th outside his Patna residence, near Gandhi Maidan South, around 11 PM. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Khemka, owner of Magadh Hospital, was a well-known figure in Bihar. His son, Gunjan Khemka, was also murdered in 2018.
