Himachal Pradesh grapples with a rising death toll, now standing at 80, as a result of the ongoing impact of heavy rainfall and related incidents. The SDMA has confirmed that 52 deaths are directly linked to natural disasters triggered by the rains, such as landslides and flash floods, while 28 additional fatalities are attributed to other factors, including road accidents. The district of Mandi suffered the most with 17 rain-related deaths, followed by Kangra with 11. The SDMA report, covering the period from June 20 to July 7, shows that the other causes of death include electrocution, snake bites, and falls. Besides the fatalities, 128 individuals have sustained injuries, 320 houses are completely destroyed, and 38 are partially damaged. Furthermore, 10,254 livestock and poultry have perished. Public infrastructure damage is estimated at Rs 69,265.60 lakh. The monsoon season has brought about 23 flash floods, 19 cloudbursts, and 16 landslides, highlighting the widespread disruption across the state’s hill districts. Relief operations are ongoing, and the public is cautioned to remain vigilant and avoid hazardous zones.
