In a landmark decision, a woman in Bihar has been sentenced to five years in jail and fined 1 lakh rupees for violating the state’s alcohol prohibition law. This is the first instance of a woman being sentenced under this specific law since its implementation. The case unfolded in Bagaha, where the accused was found guilty of illicitly trading alcohol. The arrest took place three years ago in Jitpur Matiyaria village, where law enforcement discovered 32 liters of local liquor, 80 kilograms of unfinished liquor, and related manufacturing equipment. The court, led by Special Judge Rajiv Kumar Dwivedi, issued the sentence, highlighting the legal consequences of violating the prohibition. Failure to pay the fine will result in an extra six months of incarceration. The woman was subsequently escorted to Bagaha jail. The prosecution’s case was presented by SPP Anwar Hussain Ansari.
