A tragic incident unfolded at the CCL Karma Project in Ramgarh district, Jharkhand, where a coal mine collapsed, claiming the lives of four individuals and injuring six others. The accident occurred when villagers were illegally mining coal at the Central Coalfields Limited (CCL) Karma Project in Kuju. The sudden collapse of a coal seam led to the fatalities. The injured have been transported to a hospital for treatment, with the condition of two reported as critical. The victims were reportedly involved in unauthorized coal theft when the disaster struck. The collapse of a large section of the mine trapped four people, resulting in their deaths. Upon receiving news of the incident, locals rushed to the site and recovered three bodies. The deceased have been identified as Imtiaz, Rameswar Manjhi, Vakil Karmali, and Nirmal Munda.
The villagers are blaming the CCL management for the incident, citing negligence. They allege that the lack of proper boundary walls or fencing allowed easy access to the mine, leading to the accident. They also accuse the management of violating DGMS (Directorate General of Mines Safety) regulations. Following the devastating accident, the administration has launched rescue and relief operations. JCB machines are being utilized to remove the debris and rescue those trapped. As of now, four villagers have lost their lives in the coal mine collapse, with reports indicating that more villagers are still trapped under the rubble.
